With e-cigs becoming increasingly popular in the world of celebrity, it comes as no surprise that we are seeing them featured more and more on our screens.  Here are some of the best vape scenes we have seen in TV and movies that may have gone unnoticed.

Johnny Depp in ‘The Tourist’ (Movie)


Apparently, one of the first movies to feature e-cigs, Johnny Depp’s character is seen vaping on the train while in conversation with Hollywood co-star, Angelina Jolie. Admittedly, this is only a short scene at the beginning of the movie, but in 2010, was great exposure for a product many doubted. In this scene, the camera also focuses on the anti-smoking sign behind Depp, reiterating how effective vaping can be as a method to combat smoking.

Kevin Spacey in ‘House of Cards’ (TV)


Popular US TV show, House of Cards, caused some controversy after Kevin Spacey’s character uses the line ‘addiction without consequences’ when vaping in one particular scene. This line divided the vaping community somewhat, as some argued it was a negative message. Whatever your opinion, there’s no denying that Kevin Spacey is a great advocate for e-cigs.

John Cusack in ‘Drive Hard’ (Movie)


In the movie, Drive Hard, John Cusack’s character is frequently seen holding an e-cig in his hand – a prop that even made it into the trailer of the movie. Cusack, who vapes in a couple of his other movies, including ‘Maps to the Stars’ and ‘Reclaim’, blows thick vape clouds throughout the movie, and there are also scenes where he refills his e-cig. Ironically, the movie is set in Australia, a country that bans e-liquid containing nicotine.

Zac Efron in ‘Neighbors’ (Movie)

Zac Efron, an actor who has been spotted vaping in real life on a few occasions, can be seen vaping in 2014 movie, Neighbors. The handsome actor and teen pin-up, known for his smooth dance moves and groomed-to-perfection style, is also seen vaping in more recent comedy movie, Dirty Grandpa, also starring Robert De Niro.

Milla Jovovich in ‘Anarchy’ (Movie)

The 2015 movie, Anarchy, shows lead actress, Milla Jovovich, puffing on an e-cig. Although the ecig shown in the movie was done so for product placement of a particular brand, it is refreshing to see an e-cig featured in the hand of a female actress for a change.

Despite increasing popularity globally, people are still concerned about the potential dangers of vaping, and are asking, “Are e-cigarettes safe?” And with the FDA’s recent ruling in favor of more strict regulation of e-cigs, there’s no doubt this concern has grown. We’ve compiled a list of the things people get wrong about vaping to help get to the truth of the matter.  

‘Vaporizers contain a lot of nicotine’

Nicotine actually diminishes the flavors of vapor in many cases, which is why a lot of e-cigs contain little or no vapor at all. It is common for former smokers to start off using vaporizers with high nicotine levels to gradually reduce their intake, but after a while, an e-cig user will realize that the lower the nicotine content, the better your e-cig will taste. ‘Vaping does not help smokers to quit’

According to a recent study, Most participants (72%) were former smokers, and 76% were using e-cigarettes daily. – hard evidence that vaping is a great way to help break the habit of smoking. Among former smokers who were vaping daily at baseline, 6% had relapsed to smoking after one month and also 6% after one year.

‘Lack of research suggests vaping may be more harmful than smoking’

Despite several studies like this proving the positive effects of vaping, there are still those insisting that we don’t know enough about the effects of vaping on health, and questioning whether or not e-cigarettes are safe. They maintain this concern even though regular cigarette smokers are creating and inhaling toxic chemicals – chemicals which are absent when you vape.

‘E-cigs are a gateway for tobacco abuse amongst teenagers’

In another recent study, Dr. Ted Wagener, a researcher from the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center, studied the impact of e-cig use on 1,300 college students. He found that only a single person who first used nicotine disguised as e-cigarettes later took to tobacco cigarettes, concluding that e-cigarettes should not be used as a scapegoat for tobacco use.

Here’s why e-cigs could save hundreds of millions of lives

Despite arguments to classify e-cigarettes as tobacco products, scientists insist that e-cigarettes are ‘part of the solution’ in the fight against smoking, according to an article published on CBC news.

In an open letter to World Health Organization Director General Margaret Chan, the scientists from Europe, North America, Asia and Australia said that e-cigarettes could be ‘among the most significant health innovations of the 21st century – perhaps saving hundreds of millions of lives’.

The experts also talked about the need to resist ‘the urge to control and suppress e-cigarettes as tobacco products’.

David Sweanor, a law professor at the University of Ottawa who works on tobacco control, is one of the letter signatories.

“We’re here to try to get rid of cigarettes, we’re here to try to make cigarettes obsolete and we have the potential with technology to start to do that, and that would be one of the biggest breakthroughs we’ve ever had in public health,” he said.
