Differences Between Vaping and Smoking

While smoking and vaping may look and feel quite similar, there are vast differences between the two. Sure, they both involve placing the cigarette or electronic cigalike device between your lips, taking a satisfying puff, feeling that throat hit, and exhaling a gaseous substance, but that’s pretty much as far as the similarities go. Here are three important differences between vaping and smoking if you’re considering making the switch.

Process

Traditional cigarettes release nicotine through a combustion process. When the user lights up and takes a drag, the burning of the tobacco releases nicotine, which is delivered to the smoker’s body through smoke also containing thousands of noxious chemicals, such as carbon monoxide and tar. Electronic cigarettes, on the other hand, heat e-liquid to produce a vapor that contains the substance. Since vapor contains just a small fraction of the chemicals present in smoke, studies have shown it to be much less harmful.

Ingredients

In addition to tobacco, combustible cigarettes contain a wide assortment of approximately 600 additives that could include benzene, cadmium, and arsenic, just to name a few. E-juice, however, is comprised of only a handful of ingredients: vegetable glycerin (VG), propylene glycol (PG), water, flavorings, and nicotine. While there are tobacco-flavored options, just like there are menthol-flavored e-juices, there is no tobacco your e-cigarette cartridges.

Smell

Cigarette smokers and non-smokers alike are painfully aware of the stench that cigarettes produce. Not only does the smell bother bystanders while someone is actively involved in the process of smoking, but the odor lingers long after the cigarette has been extinguished. Hair, clothing, curtains, couches, car seats, you name it, continue to reek of cigarette smoke when exposed to it. Luckily, vapor smells great, but regardless, if you happen to dislike the aroma of e-cigs, vapor dissipates after about thirty seconds! Vapers don’t have to worry about febreezing their homes or cars when using e-cigs.
