As we know, regulations placed on e-cigs by the FDA during Obama’s final year of administration have the potential to wipe out many small players in the vaping industry.

But with President Donald Trump in power, repealing these regulations could be a great start in bringing American jobs back, without the need to impose tariffs, or build walls for that matter.

According to the Smoke-Free Alternatives Trade Association, 99 percent of all e-cig and vaping products now on the market will have to be submitted for FDA review, which, could potentially push many people out of jobs, and also place the 9 million smokers who switched to vaping in jeopardy of returning to smoking cigarettes.

A report by the R Street Institute, a Washington, D.C. based free market think tank, says that the Trump administration should take action to overturn the regulations.

“Perverse tobacco policy is failing the American public and will soon destroy thousands of small and medium-sized businesses that are part of the solution, not part of the problem,” said the authors of the R Street report, Eli Lehrer and David Sweanor, professor at the University of Ottawa’s Center for Health Law.

Although the changes will not take effect immediately, this is essentially a slow-motion ban on vaping products, which could be intervened by the Trump administration. However, there have not yet been any signals on whether it will continue with Obama-era policies on e-cigs or move in a new direction.

The R Street report is also arguing that vaping products should be advertised as being healthier than traditional cigarettes. As a large majority of evidence supports this statement, such as one study from the UK that found that e-cigs are 95 percent safer than traditional cigarettes that contain tobacco.

Should the Trump Administration continue to take a hard stance on vaping, not only will this deter existing smokers from switching to vaping, but it is also likely to push vapers back onto the habit of smoking traditional cigarettes.
